“Salsa Ye Merry” combines a traditional Cuban “montuno” (a syncopated rhythmic pattern with a decidedly Latin feel) with the classic Christmas carol “God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman.” Young jazz players will really get into this infectious groove. A four-measure solo section over easy changes presents the opportunity for young jazzers to learn to improv, with suggested solos included.
